14th NAP (IR) overall champ of Nagaland Police Meet 2019

The 14th NAP (IR) was crowned the overall champion of the Nagaland Police Sports-cum-Duty meet 2019. It was the second consecutive time the unit, which is headquartered in Kiphire, took the overall champion’s title at the biennial event. 


It finished top of the sports events with as many 5 podium finishes, winning in kabaddi, boxing, basketball, tug-of-war and second in volleyball. In boxing, it won 3 gold. It also won in the Family Welfare competition, the points for which were accounted for in the overall standings.


The 12th NAP (IR) won in the Duty Items or profession-related competitions. In athletics (women), the 15th NAP Mahila (IR) took first and second positions and 1st NAP third. 


The Best Discipline Team title went to the 6th NAP. 


Chief Secretary, Nagaland, Temjen Toy was the special guest at the closing function held today at the NAPTC, Chümoukedima. Toy, in his address, said that the 38th Nagaland Police Meet would “probably be the best so far.” According to him, the Nagaland Police has been one entity in the state that has consistently produced sportspersons, who went on to represent Nagaland and also the country. While stating that the professionalism displayed by the state police personnel is known all over India, he said that the personnel should look to serve with the same level of enthusiasm when in Nagaland too. “Give your best despite the obstacles. It is our duty and our objective to serve as true policemen and women.”  


The closing ceremony also marked the promotion of Havildar Kilenmeren Ao to the rank of ABSI. An out-of-turn promotion, the honour came Kilenmeren's (21 years) way for his exploits in archery. In August, this year, he won two bronze medals at the World Police and Fire Games hosted by China. In 2017, he won two gold in the same event held in the USA.
