Guwahati, January 11 (MExN): A total of 219 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and 640 Road Under Bridges (RUBs) have been constructed in various states within the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) spanning from 2014 to December 31, 2023, an official release informed.

Construction of ROBs & RUBs, which enhances the safety of train movement to a great extent, is a continuous process in all zones of Indian Railways, the NFR said.

In the current financial year, a total of 10 ROBs were constructed, out of which five were constructed in lieu of level crossing gates and another five were constructed at new ongoing project sites.

The ROBs included six in Assam, two in Nagaland, and one each in West Bengal and Bihar.

In addition, a total of 36 RUBs were constructed at new ongoing project sites under the jurisdiction of NFR.

Out of those, 33 RUBs were constructed in Bihar at the ongoing Araria-Galgalia New Line Project, two in Nagaland at the ongoing Dimapur-Kohima New Line Project and one in Assam at Lumding-Barlangfer section.

Under the policies of Union Ministry of Railways, all the manned level crossing gates are targeted to be eliminated to improve safety in train operation, to increase mobility and to accelerate road crossing works, the NFR said.

With the construction of ROBs & RUBs, the fatal accidents involving rail and road could be reduced to a great extent, it added.
