Kohima, September 6 (MExN): The Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) 2026 examination was conducted at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima on Sunday, with 29 students from three schools appearing for the test.
The examination was organised by the Examination Committee of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, in collaboration with the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) under the Mathematical Olympiad Programme, which leads to the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Students from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kohima, appeared for the examination. Of the 29 candidates, 22 were from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School.
The IOQM is the first stage of the Indian Mathematical Olympiad Programme, providing talented students an opportunity to progress through successive stages and ultimately compete for selection to represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
The examination was conducted in accordance with prescribed protocols, with arrangements made for seating, invigilation, examination materials, attendance and security.
An authorised IOQM representative was also present at the examination centre to monitor the conduct of the test and oversee the examination materials.
Sharing her experience, Kekhriezhanuo Rutsa of Ministers’ Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, who appeared for the examination for the first time, said the experience was valuable in strengthening her mathematical foundation.
“Honestly, this examination helped me a lot, especially by building up knowledge from the basic Mathematics,” she said.
Avina Zhimo of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School described the examination as challenging and intellectually stimulating.
“The IOQM examination was definitely a tricky test for me, with various questions varying from algebra to geometry to many more usages of mathematics tricks and rules. Appearing for this examination helped me sharpen and widen my intellect of mathematics,” she said.
The successful conduct of the examination at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School reflects the institution’s continued efforts to promote academic excellence, mathematical thinking and participation in national-level academic programmes.
