The 32nd edition of the Open United Soyim Club (USC) Ungma Badminton Tournament was inaugurated this evening at the Yimtsüngta Arok Sapang in Ungma village. Organized by the USC Ungma, the 2 day tournament continues its tradition of promoting sportsmanship and nurturing badminton talent in the region.
The event was graced by Imliyanger, District Program Officer (DPO), Mokokchung, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland, as the Guest of Honour.
In his address, the Guest of Honour, Imliyanger, applauded the USC for their consistent efforts in successfully organizing the tournament for over three decades. He emphasized the importance of physical activity in today’s era and commended the players for their enthusiasm and dedication to the sport. Highlighting the value of sportsmanship, he remarked, “The game is not just about winning or losing; it’s about enjoying the journey and playing in the true spirit of sportsmanship.”
The event also included a welcome address delivered by S. Ngangshimeren Jamir, President of USC. This was followed by a special performance by Soyimramok Jamir and an exhortation from Kikumsungba Jamir, Tatar.
This year’s tournament features 44 teams competing across various categories, including: Junior Boys Doubles (Under 19); Mixed Doubles; Veteran Doubles (75+); Men’s Doubles; and Junior Singles (Under 13).
The total prize pool for the tournament is Rs 51,000, attracting participants from diverse age groups and skill levels.
