Dimapur, September 7 (MExN): Every year on September 6, the Pochuries observe ‘Black Day’ in memory of the nine departed souls of Mitikhrü massacred by the Indian army and also to pay homage to all those hundreds of Pochury souls whose blood were stained all over the land and river for future generation of the Nagas.
A press note issued by the Pochury Students’ Union stated that on September 6, the whole Pochury observed the 51st commemoration of Pochury Black Day in Matikhrü Village. Chülekhu, PPF President shared the significance of Pochury Black Day. He said that, “Today the Naga people are observing Peace day, whereas we are here (Matikhrü) observing the “Pochury Black Day” in memory of those people who were massacred by the barbaric Indian army”. He also said that, “Men folks massacred at Matikhrü village stand out as testimonies of supreme sacrifice the Pochury people had made at the altar of Naga nationalism”. He also declared that, having paid the supreme price for Naga cause, the people of Pochury reiterate their commitment to extend all possible support for the realization of the Naga dream and always continue to support the reconciliation of all Naga groups initiated by FNR.
Victor M. Fithu, Midan Peyu, Pochury Region NNC/FGN shared on how the people of Pochury have terribly suffered from the hands of the Indian army. He said that, “From the inception of the Naga movement for sovereignty, the Pochuries had pledged their unflinching support to the Naga cause at the cost of their own lives.” He also appreciated the FNG for their commendable task in their efforts to reconcile and bring together the different Naga political groups who hitherto could not stand the sight of each other. He also thank all the former and the present student leaders of Pochury Students Union (PSU) specially, Yitachu Sharu, the present Parliamentary Secretary, under who’s Presidentship the “Black Day” was initiated.
Zupeng CAO of NSCN-IM also delivered a short message. Rev. Zhiwhuotho Katiry Pastor of Pochury Baptist Church Kohima, who is one of the survivors of September 6, 1960 Holocaust shared about the event of Matikhrü massacred on September 6, 1960.
The programme start with an invocation by Zhithopa, Pastor Matikhrü Village Baptist Church, There was two minutes silent prayer, solitary song presented by Matikhrü Women Organisation. Vote of thanks was delivered by Sipichu, VCC Matikhrü, benediction was pronounced by Rev. Zhiwhuotho. The programme was followed by exhibition football match between NGOs Vrs National workers.
