The 63rd annual sports meet of the Zhadima Village Youth and Sports Organisation (ZVYSO) commenced on Tuesday at the Zhadima Sports Complex.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the Nagaland Khadi and Village Industries Board, as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Dr. Keditsu applauded the people of Zhadima for their enduring unity and highlighted the sports meet as a key contributor to fostering harmony within the community.
He emphasised the importance of the event in creating opportunities for budding sportspersons and instilling a sense of respect and pride among the villagers.
Commending Zhadima for its sports facilities, Keditsu said that the village had one of the best sports infrastructures in the Northern Angami-II area. He, however, stressed the need for the community to reflect on whether they were making the best use of these resources.
He urged the youth to utilise the facilities effectively to match the skills and competitiveness of sportspersons from other regions.
During the event, the ZVYSO Presidential Award was conferred on Visielie Sanchu, while the ZVYSO Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Zakienei Khoubve.
The programme, chaired by Keziengulie Alban Sorünuo, Secretary Judicial Matters, ZVYSO, commenced with a prayer by Pastor Khriekesa Miario of Christian Revival Church (CRC) Zhadima.
ZVYSO President Kekhriesilie Chris Khoubve delivered the presidential address, and Zhadima Village Council Chairman Neilalhoulie Soliezuo extended greetings.
Elderly blessings was pronounced by Rev. Dr. T.R. Angami. The Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) graced the inaugural ceremony as the patrons.
A major highlight of the day was the March Past by the eight Khels of the village, led by Visielie Sanchu as parade commander, followed by the oath-taking ceremony led by Keviseo Soliezuo, Games and Sports Secretary, ZVYSO.
Former Naga Idol Ruokuovotuo Pfüsenuo, accompanied by Mhasizolie Metsie-o, Vizosielie Khoubve, and Medolenuo Loucü, delivered a heartfelt rendition of Zhadizou Geizo.
The inaugural day also featured a football exhibition match between the ZVYSO and the Zhadima Students' Union (ZSU).
The first day of the event witnessed a vibrant display of athleticism, featuring competitive events such as races, jumps, and throws.
The comperes of the event were Seyiekhrielhou Kuotsu and Medolenuo Ambrocia. The second day of the five-day event will begin with the re-introduction of women's football event to be graced by Krodi Rhetso, NPS, Commandant, 10th NAP (IR) Battalion Zhadima.
