
Guwahati, January 7 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has made remarkable progress in capital expenditure (CAPEX) utilisation, having already utilised 99.24% of the allocated funds for capacity augmentation works as of December 2024, informed an official release.
Further, 75.51% of the funds for doubling works and 60.78% of funds for safety-related works have also been utilised, it said.
The CPRO NFR’s release also informed that 71.43% of the funds allotted for the construction of new Road Over Bridges and underbridges have been utilised, and 71.96% of funds for bridge-related works have also been productively spent.
This comes as part of Indian Railways' overall capital expenditure of Rs 2 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, with the national network achieving 76% utilisation of its CAPEX allocation, marking an increase of Rs 4875 crore over the previous year, it said.
According to the releases, the CAPEX investments are part of the broader efforts by Indian Railways to enhance the ease of movement for trains, improve passenger experience, and ensure a safer rail network.
Focus areas for the capital investments include capacity augmentation, gauge conversion, railway electrification, and modernisation of stations and freight terminals.
Safety works have also been prioritised, with 82% of the safety-related CAPEX already utilised in the first nine months of the financial year, it added.
