Appointing the best qualified workforce through fair play

Apropos of the reports regarding the unearthing of illegal appointments made in government departments and the ongoing agitation by the NSF against such appointments, and in what it appears to be targeting only Power Department, we, on behalf of The Graduate Electrical Engineers Association of Nagaland, would like to draw the attention of all citizens that we have no objection against any particular department or individual but what we are not satisfied is with the procedure of appointment which seems to lack fair play in appointing best qualified candidates through combine competitive exam by the State Commission. There are good numbers of educated unemployed youth in the State, but due to the lack of job opportunities; they are loitering aimlessly. The government job is certainly the only hope. So interviews and competitive examination should be conducted in a transparent manner. Such unfair appointment leads to discontentment and frustration among the youths and force them to drift towards anti-social activities.
Lately, it is observed that some individuals blame the NSF for hand-picking Power Department. However, it is quite apparent that that this drive would only be the tip of the iceberg and within no time the apex students’ organization will apply the same yardstick to check all illegal means of appointment. It would be a great mistake on the part of the authority concerned and the citizens if the blame is put on the genuine students’ who seek good governance and transparency in all matters. While making our stand clear, the Graduate Electrical Engineers Association of Nagaland would like to let the public know that we have detected various vacancies in the Power Department through RTI and also about the requisition file for the vacancies of 5 SDO and 4 J.E, which was send to the Secretariat dated 02/01/10 through file no: PWR/ESTT/-02/01/10 , however the file did not process by the department and person concerned for more than a year. But surprisingly, in the same file containing application for the contract appointment was processed and approved by the minister and the authorities concern, dated 18th April 2011. Finding out the anomalies, we the Graduate Electrical Engineers Association of Nagaland having little power to do anything, put forward our Grievances to NSF on 27th May, whereby the NSF assured us to look into the matter at the earliest. We therefore, feel that the steps taken by NSF to check the practice of illegal appointment is commendable, and appeal to our esteemed Organization to make this a beginning and to continue with the good effort to root out all anomalies in all the departments of the State for the benefit of thousands of educated youth in Nagaland. The Graduate Electrical Engineers Association of Nagaland also affirms to keep continuing our movement, not only for Engineering Graduates but to work in favor of the rising unemployment problem in state.
It is also our plea to every right thinking Nagas to come out with realistic attitudes to deal with the scandalous situation of high proportion. Citizens should not remain silent on such issues and must come forward and address their grievances though esteemed agencies and organization. However, it would definitely be unfair to keep asking the NSF or to any organization to resort to agitating and demonstration for a matter which can be corrected by any prudent citizen. We should all try to be a part of the solution to the problem. It is high time that those who think for the future of Nagaland raised their voices against corruption. If the government fails to take any positive action we should be prepared to knock the doors of the courts.
