AR rubbishes NSCN/GPRN Kyong Region's claims

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): The Assam Rifles (AR) has rubbished the contention of NSCN (IM) Kyong Region that their cadres were frisking anti social elements on Wokha-Merapani road. According to a press note issued by the PRO IGAR North, incidents were reported where certain armed cadres were forcefully stopping vehicles for extortion causing constant harassment which is gross violation of laid down of CFGR.
“Utter disrespect for CFGR was displayed by cadres on two accounts. Firstly, armed cadres moving freely outside designated camps with weapons like    M 21 Chinese rifle and secondly act of forceful extortion from commuters plying on highways. Not only this, on both the occasion i.e, 14 and 15 Nov 11, armed cadres stopped AR vehicle considering it to yet another lucrative vehicle for extortion when they were chased and nabbed”, stated the press note.
According to the AR on 15 November, one of the cadres on being surrounded even gave the orders to fire to his accomplice who pointed the weapon M 21 Chinese rifle on the chest of AR personnel when he was overpowered before he could cock his weapon.  “AR showed respect for rules and restrain of exceptional order”.
It stated that “such menacing acts committed by armed cadres in public domain were source of perennial harassment to villagers and transients”. The nabbing of armed cadres was appreciated which was received as a feedback from the villagers, it stated while adding that these unethical acts against villagers and innocent commuters in the hours of darkness are blatant violation and show explicit disregard to laid down CFGR.
The consistent harassment of masses in the form of extortion during forthcoming Christmas and New Year period reflects utter disregard to the sentiments of the Naga masses which would be contained by AR personnel at all cost with utmost dedication for the well being of general public, the AR stated.
