An attempted theft was reported at a vegetable shop in the Daily Market, Project Colony, late Saturday night. The shop, managed by an attendant while the out-of-state owner was away in his village, was targeted around 11:30 p.m.
According to eyewitnesses, a local resident noticed a man exiting the shop; when the suspect attempted to flee, he hid in a dark corner outside the premises but was quickly apprehended by locals.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had entered the shop by creating a hole in the tin sheet wall using a screwdriver.
The accused has been identified as Hunovi Chishi (33), hailing from Sutemi Village in Akuluto Circle, Zunheboto district, and currently residing in a rented house in the colony.
During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted to being under the influence of drugs, stating that he had consumed six tablets of Alprox (Alprazolam) provided by a friend.
It was also reported that a sum of cash had been taken from the shop but was later recovered by the owner. The accused was handed over to the police for further investigation.
