Participants of Baptist College Literary Day 2026 on September 17.
Kohima, September 18 (MExN): The Baptist College Literary Day, 2026, was held on September 17 at Nousi Ki, Mission Compound and the college premises, Kohima with Prof Buno Liegise, Department of Education, Nagaland University, Meriema Campus as the special guest.
In her speech, Prof Liegise expressed concern regarding the imbalance in the quality of education in many colleges and how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has provided some form of flexibility through multidisciplinary courses and Skill Enhancement Courses.
Stressing on the need to not just survive but thrive, Prof Liegise, pointed out three basic ways to thrive as a student and educator. The first way is knowledge competence which comes through proficiency in subject matter.
The one major way to be proficient is through consistent reading and being able to articulate the knowledge gained. Knowledge is powerful only when articulated.
The second point was focused on writing where Prof. Liegise encouraged students to not become dependent on Artificial Intelligence (AI). While stressing for need to be updated with technology, she made cautions about relying completely on AI. The third way to thrive, according to Prof Liegise was a growth mindset.
The Literary Day formal event was chaired by Dr Videkhono Yhokha, convenor, Baptist College Literary Committee. The program started with a prayer by Tamreimung Chüsi, chaplain, Baptist College Fellowship. Welcome address was delivered by Dr Kekuchol Pusa, principal Baptist College Kohima. A special number was presented by the Baptist College Sechü Campus students. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Kewepfuzu Lohe.
The formal event was followed by workshops and events such as Spelling Bee Competition, reading and pronunciation and professional writing in a digital age. The Spelling Bee Competition witnessed participation of 20 students. The 1st position went to Jabair of English Department while Chubarenla of English Department, Benmong of Political Science Department and Lorenbeni of Sociology Department stood 2nd, 3rd and 4th position respectively.
