Suspected militants lobbed and exploded a hand grenade at the house of an Executive Engineer EE) in Imphal Sunday night, an official source said on Monday. No human casualty was reported in the grenade explosion at the house Athokpam Dorendra Singh, an Executive Engineer of the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation at Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak under Singjamei police station of Imphal West district last night, around 9 pm.
However, damages were caused to the front verandah of the house, window panes and wall of the house.
Police, while referring to CCTV footage, said that the hand grenade was hurled by two motorcycle borne youths.
Soon after the blast, police from Singjamei police station along with top officials of the district police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
Meanwhile, denouncing the bomb attack at thickly populated areas, residents of Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak staged a protest at the gate of the engineer.
While strongly condemning the bomb blast, the protestors appealed, if any of the insurgent groups is behind the attack, not to repeat such violent act in the thickly populated area in future.
