Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): Three apex Chang bodies, the Chang Khulei Setshang (Chang Tribal Council), Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students' Conference), and Changsao Thangjam Setshang (Chang Women Organisation), have strongly and unequivocally condemned the attempted murder of one Langshi Chang.
According to a joint statement issued by the organizations, the victim, a resident of Chendang Saddle Village in Tuensang who came to earn his livelihood, was shot at by one Medochülie Rürhie, a resident of Chiechema Village, Kohima. The incident occurred on September 16, 2026, putting the victim's life at grave risk.
Calling the incident shocking, reprehensible, and completely unacceptable, the apex bodies emphasized that an attack of such a nature cannot be treated lightly or allowed to go without strict legal action.
They demanded that law-enforcement agencies leave no stone unturned in investigating the matter and ensure the accused is booked under all relevant provisions of law, including the Arms Act, without any compromise, undue leniency, or attempts to dilute the gravity of the offense.
Furthermore, the organizations urged for a speedy, fair, and impartial investigation to ensure the earliest possible delivery of justice to the victim and his family. They also demanded that the authorities ensure the victim receives all necessary medical, legal, and administrative assistance.
Cautioning that any delay or failure to take appropriate legal action would undermine public confidence in the rule of law, the three Chang apex bodies affirmed that they stand firmly united in solidarity with the victim's family and will continue to closely monitor the case.
