The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) on May 2 inaugurated a Council Office constructed under Entry Point Activity (EPA) and a Water Harvesting Structure (WHS) at Chishilimi village.

The EPA infrastructure was formally dedicated by Obed Bohovi Swu, DFO-cum-DMU Head, in the presence of Tsuamki L Yimchunger, ACF-cum-ADMU Head under NFMP DMU Zunheboto.

Addressing the gathering, Obed Bohovi Swu stated that the NFMP is being implemented by the Forest Department with support from JICA, underlining that it is a people-centric initiative designed to address the needs identified at the village level.

He emphasised that the success of the project depends largely on the active participation and cooperation of the community. Highlighting various capacity-building efforts, he mentioned that several training programmes, including nursery development, have already been conducted to enhance local skills and sustainability.

Swu further stressed the importance of proper documentation, including geo-tagged photographs to record project progress from inception to completion. Encouraging the villagers, he called for collective responsibility in protecting forest resources, describing them as valuable assets and inheritance for future generations.

“Let us work together to improve our forests and livelihoods. Challenges may arise, but with unity and determination, we can overcome them,” he said, expressing confidence that the project would achieve its objectives with community support.

The programme was chaired by Shetoni Swu Kappo, Associate Pastor (Youth), while the invocation prayer was offered by G. Tokishe Swu, Pastor (CBA). A welcome address was delivered by Jekuto Chishi, Ex-Chairman, followed by a project presentation by Shikato Chishi, Member of the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC). The programme concluded with a benediction by Kaliho Chophy, Associate Pastor (Women).
