Chümoukedima: Financial aid under PMAY-U 2.0 raised to Rs 2.5 lakh

Second PM Awas Mela-Shehri under Angikaar Campaign held 

Chümoukedima, October 28 (MExN): The second Pradhan Mantri Awas Mela–Shehri as part of the Angikaar 2025 campaign was held at Chümoukedima Town Council Hall on October 28. 

The event, organised by the Department of Municipal Affairs at the Chümoukedima Town Council Hall, aimed to showcase the achievements and implementation progress under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U), a DIPR report stated. The mela was organised to promote the central government's vision of “Housing for All.”

In his address, Advisor, Municipal Affairs & Urban Development, Zhaleo Rio said that Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban 2.0 is a continuation of the PMAY-U scheme, with the goal of providing financial assistance to urban poor and middle class families to help them build or buy affordable houses. The scheme will be implemented for 5 years. 

Under PMAY-U 2.0, the financial assistance for the beneficiaries has been raised to Rs 2.50 lakh, to be paid in three installments. “90% is funded by the Central Government and 10% by the State Government,” Zhaleo informed. 

He added that the purpose of this scheme is to provide a dignified standard of living to the poor residing in urban areas. He encouraged all the ULB councillors, authorities and Department officials to work towards the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society and to spread awareness about the various government schemes, encouraging people to avail the benefits of these initiatives. 

The Advisor also distributed Completion certificates to PMAY-U beneficiaries during the programme.

State Mission Director PMAY-U & Additional Director (HoD) Directorate of  Municipal Affairs, Temjenrenla Kechu, outlined the  achievements under PMAY-U and new strategies under PMAY-U 2.0. She informed that PMAY-U scheme has achieved significant progress in Nagaland, marking nine years of implementation since its launch in 2016. 

Under the mission, a total of nearly 30,000 dwelling units have been covered across the state, with a completion rate of about 96 percent, which is one of the highest completion rates in the North East. Beneficiaries under the first phase of the scheme have been provided with a subsidy amount of rupees 1.5 lakh, released in three installments. 

She stated that the Angikaar campaign is a nationwide outreach program under PMAY-U 2.0 to accelerate the scheme's implementation. She added that the campaign aims to raise public awareness about PMAY-U 2.0, expedite the completion of sanctioned houses through activities like door to door drives, camps and loan melas.

Earlier, presentations on innovative housing technologies and PM Surya Ghar were delivered by Proprietor Elmechent, Chonben Yanthan. Welcome address was delivered by Chairman, Chümoukedima Town Council, Lhousito Khro while vote of thanks was delivered by State Nodal Officer PMAY(U), Er Kesoweu Wetsah.
