Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 to mobilise citizen action
Kohima, September 17 (MExN): The Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign was officially launched here on Thursday, with a fortnight of activities to be held from September 17 to October 2, culminating in Swachh Bharat Diwas.
The launch was organised jointly by the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Urban Development, and Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).
As per the DIPR report, Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department, Kekhrievor Kevichusa, launched the campaign and administered the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 pledge.
Director, Urban Development, Tarachu Fithu, said that October 2 is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas to offer tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. He noted that the annual 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign has been observed since 2017 as a prelude to Swachh Bharat Diwas, with the aim of strengthening voluntarism and collective action for a Clean India.
As part of SHS 2026, Fithu said five pillars of activities are to be carried out by local bodies, states, line departments and public sector enterprises, Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Clean Public Places; Swachh Paathshala (clean institutions of learning), Yuva for Swachhata; SafaiMitra Suraksha Seva Evam Samman Shivir; Jan Bhaagidari for Swachhata; and Swachhata Se Samriddhi.
