Government of Nagaland under Sarva Shiksha Abhivan (SSA) has adopted the Computer Aided Learning (CAL) Programme in selected Government Middle School during 2004-2005. It is helping for creating an interactive and productive learning environment for the students of elementary level. CAL makes the traditional learning more interesting, joyful and easy to learn through audio visual process using CAL with well explained multimedia concepts to explain the subject matter in a way that helps to improve the quality of education in classroom.
SSA is an effort of Government of India to universalize the elementary education by community ownership of the school system. A response to the demand for quality basic education all over the country. The SSA programme is also an attempt to provide an opportunity for improving human capabilities to all the children, through provision of community owned quality education in a mission mode. These modules are designed, based on the state school curriculum the hard topics on the subjects like English, Mathematics and Science are identified by our well experiences Govt. School Teacher and produced them in multimedia interactive formats for the benefits of the children in our local voice track.
Govt. has appointed IT facilitators in all the selected Govt. Middle School across the state and they are responsible for operation and maintenance of all equipment, furniture, fixtures and fittings provided in the computer room.
They used to open the computer room everyday and check that all the equipments are at respective places as were in the previous day of closing time. If any changes or alternation are observed, the matter should be immediately informed to the Head Teacher, Village Education Council Chairman and thereafter it should be reported to higher authority for necessary action.
The CAL Programme is to make students to become computer literate and most of the middle schools do not have proper number of Science and Mathematics teachers, the lessons in the CAL programme have been prepared in such a way that it benefits the teachers as well as the students. It also covers English Grammar and Computer Science.
These lessons have been made so as to draw attention of the students in computer classes rather than hearing long lecturers while teaching science, mathematics and English grammar. Therefore, it is the duty of the teacher to take the students in computer classroom, give guidance and let the students learn themselves under the care of the respective subject teachers. CAL programme in Nagaland is unique as the elementary schools in the state have got a unified syllabus and curriculum in both Government and private schools. So this programme benefits all the students of the state at the elementary level.
Teachers should avoid the extra devices like camera, internet, downloading, pen drives etc. if they are not fully aware of using it properly these devices interferes with other programs and paves obstacles in smooth running of track of IT programmes.
After the day’s less/topic is completed if free time permits, let the students go for games, music, videos or M.S-Word, drawing, painting etc. the syllabus may change from time to time but teachers have to update one’s capacity and interest towards the latest teaching techniques and not to drop or keep away the provided facility but cope up with the trend, enjoy, explore and attain the real goal and objectives.
