Congress workers launch attacks on BJP election meeting

Imphal| December 11:Workers of the Congress party today launched attacks on the BJP election meeting in Manipur injuring many people. The meeting attended by BJP national vice president Dr Najma Heptullah and other leaders in Manipur's Thoubal district was disrupted by Congress workers today.
The BJP organised election meeting at Moijing in Manipur chief minister’s home constituency was attacked by Congress workers with stones and other weapons injuring dozens of people.
According to the reports, the incident happened on Sunday morning when BJP vice-president, Dr Najma Heptullah, BJP general secretary Tapir Gao, party minority cell president MS Rehmad Tula and BJP Manipur Pradesh president Sh Shantikumar Sharma just arrived at the meeting venue. Reports said the incident began at around 10:30 am.
According to the reports culled from the spot, Congress workers allegedly started pelting stones and other weapons available near the venue when the BJP programme just began. However, the police rushed to the spot and control the unruly incident but not before many were stoned.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday attacked the Congress saying the Northeast region has been kept isolated from the mainland India by this party thereby making the region underdeveloped.
It can be noted that on Saturday, Xr Najma Heptullah had said, “In the 60 years of Congress rule in India, we do not see development in the Northeast. There is no road connectivity in the region."  Dr. Najma Heptulla was talking to pressmen at the Manipur State unit BJP office here on Saturday upon her arrival here on a three-day visit.
