A court in Maharashtra has rejected the bail plea of all 116 individuals arrested in connection with the raid on an alleged fake call centre in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) Maharashtra on October 28. The arrested include 25 youths from Nagaland.

Confirming the development, Naga Students’ Union Pune (NSUP) President Namgui KC Gangmei told The Morung Express that the court denied bail on November 10. He further informed that the alleged company involved had reportedly hired a lawyer from Mumbai to represent all the arrested persons.

Gangmei stated that details regarding the court’s decision were yet to be received from the lawyer. He added that the union was in contact with a local Aurangabad lawyer, who has offered to help identify and separate the names of the Naga youths among the 116 arrested.

He also said that the NSUP has not been able to reach all the parents of the arrested Naga youths, but is “doing a final count” to proceed with those they have contact with and then follow up with the rest.

On whether the union planned to seek public financial assistance for the 25 arrested Naga youths, Gangmei said there was no such plan at present. “I will leave that for the parents and relatives,” he stated. While acknowledging that financial support to the unions is always appreciated, he said the NSUP preferred not to seek donations in this case to avoid any questions about its integrity.

He added that parents and relatives had been advised to make the necessary financial arrangements, as the union was coordinating efforts for a second bail application through the local lawyer in Aurangabad.

Earlier, on November 7, Sub Inspector and Investigating Officer Geeta Bagwade had confirmed to this newspaper that 25 of the 116 arrested employees were from Nagaland, aged between 19 and 29 years. At the same time, the officer also stated that the parents and relatives of the arrested Naga youths had been informed.

The NSUP president, however, expressed doubt over this claim, adding that “only eight parents are in the group chat created for the arrested youths.”

As per the PTI news agency, the 116 people, including a juvenile, were detained for allegedly stealing data of US citizens and duping them. Citing an official, the police said the action was taken based on intelligence inputs.
