Following the decision of a high level meeting on Monday, the Mizoram government on Wednesday formally sealed international borders and inter-state borders barring few entry and exit points as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of deadly coronvirus.
A notification issued by Mizoram Home secretary Lalbiaksangi said that check posts at Zokhawthar village on the Mizoram-Myanmar border in Champhai district, Kawrpuichhuah along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Lunglei district will remain opened from 9 am to 5 pm daily.
Check posts at Kanhmun on the Mizoram- Tripura border in Mamit district and Khawkawn on the state border with Manipur will also be opened between 9 am and 5 pm daily, the notification further said.
As regard to Mizoram border with Assam, check post will be opened at Vairengte and Bairabi from 6 am to 10 pm daily.
“In all other international and inter-state borders and check posts other than mentioned above, district authorities should maintain barricades and have police personnel on duty 24 hours to prevent entry of people from across the borders,” the notification also said.
The notification further stated that screening will be conducted on all goods and passengers in all the entry points and those passengers who have obtained slips related to screening within the stipulated time frame will be allowed to proceed after going through screening, even after closure of the gates.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Health department officials said that screening for the deadly virus is being carried out in full swing in border areas and Lengpui Airport.
Till date no case of coronavirus has been detected in the state, they also said.
