Fearing that there may be a famine-like situation amid COVID-19 pandemic, several individuals and villagers have started taking up farming with seriousness to become self-reliant.

Among the many are Pele Khezhie, a Class I Contractor and President of Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers Union (NCSU).

Talking to media persons in his newly set up farm at Viphoma village, Khezhie informed that he too decided to venture into paddy cultivation sensing the bleak situation posed by COVID-19 pandemic. He said the present situation compelled many people to go back to the soil and work hard to be truly self-reliant.

On Tuesday, by adhering social distancing protocol, Khezhie used the work force of Viphoma village for paddy sowing in his farm, near Dzudza River, Viphoma.

Traditionally, the villagers usually help each other by working together in the paddy field on a rotational basis.
Khezhie also plan to undertake fishery and piggery farming in the same location. Meanwhile, Khezhie encouraged others to give due attention in the farming activities and to be on the safe side.
