DIMAPUR | DECEMBER 28: CPI (ML) candidate of 21 Borjan constituency for the ensuing Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and former KAAC vice chairman, LN Subba, has assured the public that he would devote his time and energy to bringing development to the constituency bordering Nagaland.
Addressing at an election rally at Bor Lengri ground on Tuesday (December 27), the CPI (ML) candidate said that though the Congress party may pour money during election time, but the public must also realize that Congress which had run the autonomous council for the past ten years had done little in terms of development of the constituency.
Subba said if elected he would make a point that villagers have better roads, electricity, water supply and other basic infrastructure.
Former Member of Parliament and CPI (ML) central executive member, Dr. Jayanta Rongpi, in his speech accused the Congress of depriving and robbing the people of Borjan constituency of their due share of development. “Congress ran the council for ten years but what did the villagers get? Nothing,” he said. The former MP also alleged that the poor were deprived of job opportunities in the Congress-led KAAC as the people cannot get government jobs without paying bribes.
Appealing to the electorate to vote for Subba, Rongpi said he was confident that Subba, a noted social worker, would not only usher equitable development in the constituency but also foster better understanding and bond among different communities.
Another CPI (ML) leader, Jay Kathar (IAS Retd) stressed on the need to reclaim Karbi Anglong as an “autonomous state” so that the people can enjoy the fruits of development like other people. Kathar said that the “autonomous state” status granted to Karbi Anglong in 1971 was rejected and discarded by the Congress party in 1972.
Karbi Students’ Association (KSA) general secretary who also spoke on the occasion urged the public to elect Subba.
It may be mentioned election for KAAC is slated for January 4, 2012.
