Shamator, November 13 (MExN): An awareness programme on ‘Safe and Dignified Breastfeeding, Gender based and Domestic Violence’ was held at the Cultural Hall, Shamator on November 13.
The event was organised by the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and the Sakhi One Stop Corner (OSC), Shamator.

According to a DIPR report, resource persons for the programme included DHEW Gender Specialists T Yanhola and A Henry, and Yantsula, Office Assistant of OSC.

Addressing the gathering, Gender Specialist T Yanhola emphasised that breastfeeding is universally recognised as the best for infants and encouraged mothers to feel proud in feeding their child, official sources said.

Yanhola also spoke on the issue of domestic violence, stating that “violence is not the answer to progress in the present society”. She highlighted that many cases often go unreported due to a lack of awareness about rights guaranteed by the government for the protection of children and women.

She further stated that the goal should be to build better homes where the safety of children and women is prioritised through education and respect.

Another Gender Specialist, A. Henry, acknowledged the participation of the community and noted the visible gender equality in Naga society compared to other parts of India, citing the leadership roles women hold in many departments.

A welcome address was delivered by R. Kampenla, who also thanked the participants for the success of the programme.
