Dimapur | March 29

Taking a leaf out of the Mokokchung DC’s directive, the Dimapur district administration has also disallowed civilian volunteers keeping vigil at entry points into the district.

Since the enforcement of the lockdown, localities in Dimapur, bordering Karbi Anglong has started deploying youth volunteers at several entry points to check inter-state movement of people. While initially regarded as a move to assist the police, it became a public health concern as little regard was given to the nationwide call to maintain “social distancing” or a safe distance of atleast one meter between individuals.

The dangers of volunteers as well as police personnel crowding together while keeping vigil was also widely pointed out on social media.

The Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur informed today that no civilian, except authorized government personnel, will be allowed to keep watch at the entry points from Monday. He added his office will be issuing an official directive in this regard.

In addition to the danger of contagion posed by crowding, the DC said that the district is already under the purview of CrPC section 144, which technically renders any public assembly of more than 5 people illegal.

He further said that the movement of medical personnel and other essential services should not be obstructed.
