Teachers’ Day celebrations held across Nagaland
Dimapur, September 6 (MExN): Teachers' Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and widespread participation across parts of Nagaland and neighboring Assam on Saturday, marked by cultural tributes, felicitations, and calls to uphold academic discipline and the dignity of labor.
In Dimapur, the Common Teachers’ Day Celebration 2026 was organized at Greenwood School in Kuda Village by the Office of the District Education Officer (DEO) in collaboration with the All Nagaland Private School Association (ANPSA, Dimapur Unit). The event was co-sponsored by the State Bank of India Regional Branch Office, Dimapur, and the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU).
Gracing the occasion as the Special Guest, Warren Holohon Yepthomi, Director of Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Nagaland, felicitated four distinguished educators chosen for the District Teachers' Award 2026. Selected by the District Level Committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, the awardees are: Chandeno Ezong, Graduate Teacher (GT), Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Purana Bazaar; Vikali Zhimomi, Primary Teacher (PT), Government Primary School (GPS), Eralbill; Paul Achumi, Graduate Teacher (GT), Government High School (GHS), Kushiabill and Temsuienla, Assistant Teacher, Little Star Higher Secondary School.
Addressing the gathering, DEO Y Mughaho Zhimo welcomed the teaching fraternity and dignitaries, while GHSS Purana Bazaar teacher Chandeno Ezong spoke on behalf of the award recipients. The program featured skits, dances, and musical tributes by students from PM Shri GHS Naharbari, PM Shri GHS Thahekhu, GMS Phaipijang, Footprints Academy, and Christian Higher Secondary School.
The event concluded with a vote of acknowledgement by Assistant Education Officer (AEO) Nilokato Shore and a benediction by Pastor Nivukhu V Jimo of Sumi Baptist Church, Purana Bazaar.
In Tuensang, Sao Chang College observed the day under the theme "Honouring the Guides" at the college Multipurpose Hall. Principal Dr. Lanurenla and Vice Principal Dr. Lal Veda Chandra Kumar addressed the gathering, acknowledging the dedication and tireless service of teachers in shaping student lives.
Delivering the inspirational address, Assistant Professor Akyuba Sangtam urged students to make disciplined, responsible use of their time while remaining committed to academic pursuits and personal growth. The program featured performances titled "Harmony Together" and "The Art of Moments" by hostellers, along with presentations by the Sao Chang College Students’ Union (SCCSU).
In neighboring Assam, Balijan English School in Karbi Anglong's Bokajan sub-division observed the day at the school auditorium. School Headmaster Rama Shankar Pandey addressed the students, describing teachers as lighthouses guiding learners through the vast sea of education. He emphasized character-building, perseverance, and the dignity of labor. The celebration was highlighted by student performances, including drama, traditional cultural presentations, and modern Adivasi dances.
