DNSU calls for responsible Durga Puja & Diwali festivity

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 11 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has extended warm greetings to the community in celebration of Durga Puja and the upcoming Diwali festivals.

In light of the festive season, the DNSU, in a press release, urged citizens to refrain from using firecrackers containing banned chemicals and barium, as mandated by the Supreme Court. The union also called for an end to the use of high-volume sound systems during celebrations.

The DNSU reminded shopkeepers and street vendors of the legal implications of selling banned firecrackers, emphasizing that such actions could have detrimental effects on society and the environment. It highlighted that harmful firecrackers pose significant health risks, particularly to individuals with heart conditions and other health issues.

Furthermore, the union urged the public to avoid bursting firecrackers in "Silence Zones," which include areas within 100 meters of hospitals, educational institutions, courts, religious sites, and other designated areas. It also stressed the importance of adhering to authorized timings for bursting green crackers, specifically before 10 PM.

The DNSU said it has received multiple complaints regarding the illegal sale of banned firecrackers without the required licenses. Towards this, it warned of action including seizing of such items if necessary.

Additionally, the DNSU appealed to colony councils, youth organizations, and local authorities to actively monitor and prevent unauthorized firecracker use in their communities, promoting a safe and responsible celebration for all.
