Noklak, January 9 (MExN): ‘Luck or chances won’t take you far,’ MLA Benei M Lamthiu told students on January 9, urging them instead to rely on what he termed three essential tools for success: willpower, determination and hard work.
“For the hardworking, there is plenty and enough,” he asserted while addressing the concluding day of the 63rd General Session of the Khiamniungan Students’ Union at Sanglao village, Noklak stressing that these tools are the only reliable means to achieve personal and collective goals.
Speaking on the sub-theme “Roots and New Horizons,” Lamthiu challenged student delegates to transform the Khiamniungan community through the power of education. Drawing inspiration from the idea that education is the passport to the future, he encouraged students to master modern education to keep pace with a rapidly evolving world, according to a DIPR report.
The MLA urged the student body to strive for excellence in competitive arenas and expressed his vision of greater representation from the Khiamniungan community among the state’s gazetted officers.
While advocating modernisation, Lamthiu reminded the youth that their identity remains their greatest strength. He urged them not to lose sight of their roots—the traditions and heritage passed down through generations—while adapting to contemporary lifestyles.
The session also featured a keynote address by the Speaker, Assembly Affairs, KSU, along with a folk fusion performance by the Choklangan Students’ Union. Short speeches were delivered by the President of the Khiamniungan Cultural Club, Noklak, and the General Secretary of the Khiamniungan Gazetted Officers' Association.
The three-day 63rd General Session of the Khiamniungan Students’ Union commenced on January 7 and concluded on Friday.
