Eri Silk production unit at Aoyimti village inaugurated

Department of Sericulture, Nagaland has set up a new Eri Silk production unit at Aoyimti village, Dimapur. It was inaugurated by T Sanny Pongener, Director, Sericulture Department on June 17.

Aoyimti, June 17 (MExN): The Department of Sericulture, Nagaland has set up a new Eri Silk production unit at Aoyimti village, Dimapur under State Plan Fund 2022-2023. The unit was inaugurated by T Sanny Pongener, Director of Sericulture Department on June 17.

A press release received here stated that in his address, the Director encouraged the Aoyimti village community to make the best use of the infrastructure provided by the government by producing a quality silk yarn which would fetch a good income and definitely assist in poverty alleviation and economic upliftment of the people. It was also informed that the department would impart basic training and provide raw materials to this unit.

The Director also highlighted that Department is now focusing more towards the private entrepreneurs as Naga Silk is now highly demanded by other states and countries, however the production is very low from our state. Therefore, he encouraged the villagers to make use of this unit by contributing towards producing the best eri silk.

Meanwhile, the Aoyimti Village Council, chairman on behalf of the aoyimti village acknowledged the Department of sericulture for providing the eri silk production unit.

The Director was accompanied by officials from the department viz. Dy Director M Meyase, Dy Director Nangshimeyu and Mejamongla, Assistant Sericulture officer who chaired the programme. The inaugural was also attended by council members along with church members and Watsü Telongjem Aoyimti.
