Delhi, August 9 (MExN): Members of the Naga People’s Union for Civil Liberties (NPUCL) met and apprised R.N. Ravi, Interlocutor of the Indo-Naga Peace Talk, and Chairman, Joint Intelligent Committee, on August 8 at his office in New Delhi and urged his office to expedite the Indo-Naga political dialogue for long and lasting solution.
Led by NPUCL President Kahorngam Zimik, the delegation comprised advocates, professors teaching in various universities in Delhi, senior Naga activists and research scholars, a press release informed. The NPUCL acknowledged the cooperation extended in granting bail to Naga political prisoner, Anthony N. Shimray.
The delegates shared their concerned that amidst assurance for early solution in the long 19 years of cease-fire and negotiation process, an honourable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue has not taken place till date, and therefore urged for expediting the settlement of the Indo-Naga issue. The members expressed their fears that if the process is allowed to prolong indefinitely, it might get derailed without any honourable solution. It was also highlighted that, with the demise of a tall Naga leader, late Isaac Chishi Swu, former Chairman of NSCN (IM), Nagas are in the state of urgency to see the logical conclusion of the talk.
In response to the concern shared by the members, Ravi, thanked the delegates for calling his office to share valuable observations on the ongoing talk. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is very keen to solve the protracted Nagas issue like him and that there has been a “significant progress” in the negotiation. Now the atmosphere is optimistic and we should achieve it, he said. Nagas have “legitimate aspiration” and we should all work together to achieve the aspiration, the release mentioned the interlocutor as saying. With much appreciation for Naga elders leading the talk, on their maturity, toughness and intelligence, Ravi also appealed the delegation and Nagas to spread awareness on the Naga issue to its neighbours and others, the NPUCL stated in its release.
