Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): A 62-year-old man was arrested here on September 5 for allegedly defrauding a job aspirant of lakh of rupees by promising overseas employment, while impersonating senior officials of multiple agencies, Dimapur Police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Tarun Lachmandas Ramnani was taken into custody by Dimapur East Police in connection with FIR No. 191/26, registered under Sections 318(4), 319(2), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to a press release from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, Dimapur.
Modus Operandi
Tarun Lachmandas Ramnani posed as the “District President of Dimapur East Nagaland Anti-Corruption (ORG)” and targeted the victim with a promise of a job placement in Luxembourg.
He collected Rs 1,50,000 on January 15, 2026, as job processing fees. To sustain the deception, he issued a fraudulent certificate in the name of “Mama Shelter Luxembourg” and subsequently demanded an additional Rs 1,00,000 to finalise the job.
During the arrest, police recovered a suspicious identity card bearing the name “CBI (Central Bureau of Intelligence),” where the accused falsely projected himself as the “Nagaland State Director.”
The CBI’s official name is Central Bureau of Investigation.
The accused has been booked for cheating, cheating by impersonation, and criminal intimidation, the Police added.
Dimapur Police have appealed to any other citizens who may have been duped, approached, or have information regarding Tarun Lachmandas Ramnani to immediately contact the East Police Station, Dimapur, at 7085055020.
