Farm School inaugurated in Jalukie

Sponsored by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Jalukie block, the first Farm School of Peren district was inaugurated Friday at Haingelung Development Society (HDS) farm School Jalukie (B).
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, the DFO & Project Director ATMA Peren district, Alemla Ao urged on the need for faster dissemination of agriculture technology by promoting farmers’ interaction.
HDS farm school, the only of its kind in Jalukie block has been selected on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in knowledge dissemination, the chief guest disclosed while therefore encouraging farmers’ networking and interaction in their own dialects so that neighboring villages are also benefitted through the practical experience acquired from the farm school. She also disclosed that experts in the government, Subject Matter Specialists (SMS), research organization, non-governmental organizations and agencies associated with agricultural development in the district will be coordinated for necessary assistance.   
“Our expectation from you is high. Take it as a challenge with more jealous enthusiasm. Let the result of your hard work be the indication of your gratitude to me and ATMA”, the chief guest reminded while sarcastically bringing down the concept of gifts and presentations to chief guests in occasions.
Earlier, Kumui Nring Deputy PD, while sharing on the concept of Farm Schools, specified that outstanding and potential farmers are selected to run as farm schools which would operationalise as frontline demonstration in one or more crops focusing on Integrated Crop Management including field preparation, seed treatment, pest and nutrient management. While imparting season-long technical training, interactive session during each of the 6 critical stages of cropping season is also imperative, he said. Selection of teachers, knowledge and skill upgradation of teachers will be done through training and exposure visits, he informed. While disclosing state awards for best farm schools, he also insisted on a hands-on experience, observation, analysis and discussions ensuing in these farm schools.
Amos Ao, District Horticulture Officer Peren, gave a brief discourse on the need to impart knowledge to genuine farmers. The DHO who distributed variety of seedlings to the farmers also assured to give training on preparation of soil for tomato plantation in the farm school.
Akam Zeliang, Deputy PD gave the welcome address while Chairman HDS, Secretary HDS and Chairman Jalukie (B) gave short speeches.
During technical session, a cultivation practice of tomato was discussed by Benjamin Zeliang HDS. Special presentation on cultivation practices of Chilli was disseminated by the Block Technical Manager, Shri Kiachang.
The vote of thanks was addressed by Shri L.Lima Chang, Convener, BTT and the concluding remark was surmised by R. Santsu Kithan, SDAO & Deputy PD of the ATMA.
