Federation of War Mihngi Local Dorbars urges President of India

Shillong, December 6 (NNN): The indigenous people living on the Indo Bangladesh Border of Meghalaya under the banner of the Federation of War Mihngi Local Dorbars today urged the President of India Pratibha Devi Sing Patil to nominate John F Kharshiing, the chairman of the grant Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya as a member of Rajya Sabha.
“He has been selflessly serving and helping the people of the Border Area in spite of so many difficulties for the last many years” the Federation said. “We would like to inform you that Bah John F Kharshiing played a very important and major role in his timely visit on April, 16, 2001, and his self-less help to more than 700 very economically poor men. Women, and children of Pyrdiwah  Village, in Meghalaya, India- Bangla border which was attacked and ransacked by a Battalion of Arm Bangladesh, Rifles (BDR) and about 500 armed Bangla army soldiers. On surrounding the Pyrdiwah- BSF outpost consisting of 20 to 25 men they BDR fired seven rounds, on 15th night April, 2001.People fled with whatever they could carry. John Kharshiiing was the first person to inform the District authorities, who were unaware of the gravity of the situation, as the BSF refused to inform the authorities hoping they would solve the problem locally” Memorandum said.  
The memorandum termed Kharshiing as a personality of high integrity who has played a very important role for the protection of the borders of the country. The Federation apprised the President of India that he deserved to be nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha.
