Something unwelcoming becomes habitual and hobby of different age group boys and girls around our environment so as we are being accustomed to an assumption that ‘Loss and profit’ is the only exit from poverty. Every morning I woke up and read through the news paper with the hope of hard and soft news of state, National and International issues but I feel so sorry to see some columns carried a boring article i.e. “Lost Notice” filling one full page and its reverse page too’, it is not likely a news, it only bogs down the smooth flow of good news story. Some said ‘Stolen’, some said ‘Lost’, some said ‘Missing’ and vice versa but less notice of “Lost and found” seen in the fourth estate these days. From this very outlook of recent and current scenario, I would like to briefly put across in the following lines.
I don’t have any grudge against the press, individual or groups but from the above facts witnessed, I figured out that sudden finders become permanent keepers, unfortunate losers become ever weepers. I am sympathizing with such occurrences but in reality, it is of no use to cry over the spilt milk once accidentally falls out of our hands. On one fine day, my father advised me, whether it is religious or traditional belief I am not aware, not to have (to pick up) any unattended things or object anywhere on the way because our properties get lost double its worth in one way or the other. This piece of advice has proven a stumbling block for me to pick up such unattended things. But so also, some people believed that there is no sin (wrong) having it if we only offer ten percent out of hundred percent of its share in the church. I don’t think God will be happy to accept it before it is made known publicly through ‘Lost and found’ notice etc. Just take this analogy (for example), if I happen to find rupees one lakh in an unattended wallet on the way or elsewhere, I assure you I will be very happy to have it exclaiming, O God, you bless me without wasting even an iota of energy. Thank you, Lord. Whether it is regarded blessing or temptation, need clear-cut message in the form of sign boards or hoardings in very corners wherever sensing the presence of scavengers. To me, there is no other cardinal sin than leaving others to cry of loss.
Secondly, by no reason I want to be called ‘theft’. Snatching, hijacking innocent travelers, fraud etc. has become highly on the rise that local travelers and non local travelers fear to enter or tread in our soil. Thus, every individual needs to adopt strong resolution in ‘self’ that I will not do so against natural rights unless go ‘berserk’… perhaps; it has become a daily routine for those who stealthily lay hands on properties that don’t belong to him/her. And maybe, those persons accomplished in stealing have acquired an intangible (magical) stone in their hands. In my traditional jargon called ‘stealing stone’ (Provocating stone; it mightn’t be aptly used). Which we assumed to say that when this stone moves, insensibly, inside the vein, their hands become itchy to lay hands on others’ properties in sight. Those who do not overcome these, some caught red-handed and lucky theft managed to escape. But we are thankful to the police personnel of crime branch for their utmost effort rendered to bring the culprits to book and to curb such trends snowballing in and around Nagaland. We are also much thankful to Naga National workers for their tremendous services in recovering stolen vehicles etc. and returned to the rightful owner. But on the other side, honestly, we are hopeful of the pertinent facts or meticulous reports of the accused to be made known publicly, if not for security reasons, and bring culprits to trial in relevant sections in the days to come.
Thirdly, in every minute and hour. Such cases are piling up uncontrollably. Such offences like larceny, burglary and robbery; another crimes such as killing or kidnapping-first or second degree, voluntary and involuntary etc are facing fulmination, vituperation etc in plethora from the social organizations and individuals using phrases and epithets like ‘heinous’, ‘barbaric’, ‘coward’ etc. Yes, such denunciation partially served as an effective substitute for it but it is still increasing without a second thought. One day, for sure, ‘a car will say’, “I become insecure at the mercy of human race”. Not only the children and fair sexes are insecure, but also every little thing around us becomes unsafe. ‘You become I and I become you (indiscriminate) that are what becomes of. Since it is our land that instead of making others fear to walk, indulging in stealing, kidnapping and killing, keep them safe realizing our mistakes and send a message of love and care and good Nagaland to the rest of the world. Lastly, I apologize for any slip of the pen in this article.
