
IMPHAL | July 17 : Five activists of a group of KCP, including two women, were nabbed on Saturday by the Thoubal police commandos in a joint counter insurgency operation with the troops of 15 Assam Rifles, a police source said Sunday.
‘Self style Thoubal district commander’ of KCP (Wanglen Khuman) Moirangthem Rajen (40) of Wangjing Lamding and its secretary organisation Salam Chandra (21) of Heirok part-I were among the nabbed activists, police said, adding that they were picked up during a raid conducted at Wangjing yesterday around 7 pm.
The two leaders of the group were apprehended with two women activists identified as Moirangthem Ibemcha Devi (32) and Romobala (28), and with another activist Moirangthem Ningthem alias Meiraba (23) of Heirok part-I.
Five demand letters of the group and a list of individuals who apparently related with the serving of extortion notice were recovered from the five arrested activists, police added.
In another unrelated incident, two men, who were alleged of extorting money from individuals with ‘fake’ demand letters of “Govt of GPRN”, were arrested by Imphal East district police on Wednesday.
Ahao Koanghay (41) son of Seprang and Leishan Presceiashon (39), both residents of Maoirangpam village, Ukhrul district were arrested by a team of Lamlai police station in an operation in their village on Wednesday evening based on specific information, police said.
A machete (Nepali knife) and one fake demand letter of the ‘Govt of GPRN’ were recovered from the possessions of the two who admitted that they used to extortion money from the general public, government officials with the knife recovered from them.
They were also involved in the kidnapping of one Asheibam Perit for ransom recently, police added.
