The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) observed the 64th Teachers’ Day with a celebration and felicitation programme at Whispering Winds, Mokokchung, on September 5, honouring four teachers who received the District Teachers’ Award 2026.
The awardees, selected on the recommendation of the District Selection Committee for their meritorious service, were Kangabam Rajenkumar Singh, GT, Government High School, Longjang; Pusumenla Pongener, TGT, Assam Rifles School, Mokokchung; Sentimenla, GT, PM SHRI Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School; and Shiluyongdang, Head Teacher, Government Middle School, Chungtiayimsen.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, EAC Kewimesin Nriame said teachers played a key role not only in imparting education but also in shaping the character of students. She said technology and artificial intelligence could provide information but could not replace the human relationship between teachers and students.
Nriame also called for collective efforts among the government, teachers, students, parents and the community to improve education and prepare students not merely for examinations but for responsible citizenship and life.
District Education Officer Arenla said Teachers’ Day was an occasion to acknowledge the contribution of teachers in shaping the future of children. She described teachers as partners in the development of the education sector and called for collective efforts to make schools safe, creative and meaningful spaces for learning.
Representing ANPSA, Mokokchung Unit, the speaker acknowledged teachers for their patience and dedication, and said education extended beyond textbooks and classrooms, with teachers playing an important role in nurturing students.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Pusumenla Pongener expressed gratitude to the District Selection Committee and AKM, saying the recognition was both an honour and a responsibility. She said the award would encourage the recipients to continue learning, improving and serving their students with greater commitment.
The programme included a special number by Ladybird School, while AKM President Lanulemba Longchar delivered the welcome note.
