The second phase of Smile Train Shija Cleft Project- Mission Nagaland was held at Oking Hospital & Research Clinic Pvt. Ltd, Kohima from December 8 to 9. Smile Train Partnered Surgeon Dr. Kh Palin said surgery of 10 patients has been performed successfully in this 2nd phase. He also, said that the patients with cleft lip surgery will stay one day and palate surgery has to be in the hospital atleast two days.
The 3rd phase of Smile Train Shija Cleft Project- Mission Nagaland would be arranged next year from January 15 to 17.
Any patients with Cleft Lip & Palate can get register themselves with Oking Hospital and avail free surgical treatment. He also, said that there are more than 2500 cleft patients in Nagaland. However, due to financial constraint and unawareness of the treatment facility, the patients are unable to avail the treatment.
Smile Train Shija Cleft Project- Mission Nagaland has been rendering free treatment from the age of 6 months onwards. However, the minimum age for cleft lip is 6 months and cleft palate is 14 months, said Dr. Palin. While interacting with some of the operated patients, they are very happy and said that now they can go to the public places and enjoying with their friends as a normal person.
Most of the patients said they could not effort the treatment due to financial constraint, but thanks to Smile Train Shija Cleft Project- Mission Nagaland for extending free treatment.
