“Frontier Nagaland toh nababo naki ho”— those were the words and assumptions some elders and youths spoke of long ago, when they were, at some point, hopeless, tired and frustrated.
But here we are today, celebrating the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA).
This moment is a tribute to the sleepless nights of our pioneers and present leaders, and to the immense pressure they endured for the cause of the Eastern People. The prayers and aspirations of denizens, irrespective of tribe or clan, coming together as one for FNT have finally been heard. It is, without doubt, a genuine reason to celebrate such a historic victory. Who wouldn’t?
However, this is only the tip of the iceberg.
Challenge after challenge awaits FNT and its people. Every step taken will be closely watched, whether by internal or external eyes. Therefore, extreme vigilance must be one of our foremost priorities. There should be absolutely no room for corruption. Transparency and accountability must be the first keys to unlocking the long-awaited dream of our people.
The free and young intellectual minds must speak—and their voices must be heard by those concerned. We must encourage constructive criticism, fresh ideas and fearless participation from the younger generation.
Looking back at all the hardships endured and sacrifices made by our leaders and our people, it is now time to move forward with hope and faith towards our shared vision. We are carrying the dream of yesteryear into the reality of tomorrow.
Differences must be resolved through dialogue. A spirit of brotherhood must be strengthened throughout the region.
For too long, “isms” have divided us. “Ism” has taken away our beloved ones; “ism” has deprived someone of their rights; and “ism” has played its role unconditionally. But now, that word must be erased from our vocabulary and, more importantly, must never be inherited by the younger generation.
“One-third of the seats shall be reserved for women.”
The platform is yours now.
Show the world that the women of FNTA can contribute to diplomacy, leadership, decision-making and nation-building—not merely be confined to household responsibilities.
You do not have to be perfect or possess extraordinary dynamism and capabilities. What matters is strong determination, a positive attitude and the courage to stand for what is right.
Be the voice of the speechless.
Be a guide and mentor to those who feel helpless.
Be an inspiration.
Be the game changer when things go wrong.
And above all, be the eye-opener for a society that sometimes chooses not to see.
The dream has crossed one more milestone. Now, the responsibility belongs to all of us.
Let us make sure that the sacrifices of yesterday become the foundation of a better tomorrow.
