KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 8 (MExN): St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Viswema observed Girl Child Day on September 8 with a Eucharistic celebration and cultural programme.
Girl Child Day is observed by the Catholic Church in India on September 8, coinciding with the Nativity of Mary, to express concern for the dignity, protection and well-being of neglected girl children in the country.
The Eucharistic celebration for the school children was presided over by Rev Fr C Joseph, Counsellor of St Joseph’s College (Autonomous). A cultural programme followed the celebration, honouring the Servant of God Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas, who promoted and prioritised education for poor and marginalised girls.
Held on the theme “Empower Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow,” the programme featured over an hour of cultural performances by the students. The Principal of the school, Rev Sr Stella, and Rev Fr C Joseph also addressed the gathering.
The celebration concluded with the school anthem.
