Government vehicles to face restrictions in Meriema from July 1

Kohima, June 29 (MExN): The Meriema Village Youth Organisation (MVYO) has announced that it will restrict the entry of government-registered vehicles within its jurisdiction from July 1, citing the authorities' failure to act on its repeated representations seeking repairs to National Highway-2 passing through the village.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, the organisation said it had submitted representations to the Chief Engineer, PWD (National Highways), on March 23 and June 12, requesting immediate repair of the NH-2 stretch within Meriema jurisdiction.

The MVYO alleged that despite the representations, no effective action had been taken by the concerned authorities, compelling the organisation to impose restrictions on the movement of all government-registered vehicles within the village jurisdiction from July 1 until appropriate action is taken.

The organisation said the decision had been taken to safeguard the interests of the public.

However, it clarified that the restrictions would not apply to police vehicles, paramilitary force vehicles, ambulances and other emergency medical service vehicles.

The MVYO requested the Deputy Commissioner to take note of its decision and extend the necessary cooperation. It also urged the concerned department to address the issues raised in its representations at the earliest in the interest of the public.
