Chunlikha| November 12 : Speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of Government High School Chunlikha under Tseminyu Sub Division of Kohima District on November 12, Minister for school education & SCERT Nyeiwang Konyak asserted that before the introduction of western education, Nagas did not have its own alphabet/script for which history were recorded only in the minds of the people or in the form of songs were sung in dormitories.
The Minister said there use to be two separate dormitories; boys and girls dormitories in those days. “All political and administrative systems with social activities were taught in the Morung.” He said the Morung was like residential school of today and that it was the door to the ancient Naga educational system. He said that the art of fighting and handicrafts etc were also specially taught, adding that the life of forefathers were much more sophisticated in all spheres of their life than today “because they could master everything they were taught to be in learning and in doing things.”
The minister regretted that it has become a serious problem for the students of today due to non provision of quality education because of the random appointment of untrained and underrated teachers. The minister added that it is not the teachers alone that provide education to the children, but it is the responsibility of the parents as well to teach their children at home. The minister also wishes the administrators, teachers, parents and students work on some very important issues relating to children, which can, without any problems in future be self reliant and self confident .
“No nation, no country on earth could provide all its educated populous with government jobs,” the minister said and strongly viewed that a time has come for every responsible citizen to put their wisdom, ideas and knowledge and nurture hope in children by providing quality education with advance technology . The minister said that the world is not going any better and our children will go through these troubles.
The minister also complimented the school for showing an excellent performance for the last three consecutive years. The minister also assured to attend to a memorandum submitted by the School Managing Board in respect of upgradation of GHS Chunlikha to that of GHSS, construction of new school building and the like.
