ICAR-AICRP on spices holds livelihood training in Renthan, Beisumpuikam

Dimapur, December 14 (MExN): A day-long awareness training programme on prospect of spices production was conducted at Renthan village, Wokha and Beisumpuikam village, Peren for the livelihood improvement of NITI Aayog identified aspirant villages December 12 and 13 respectively. 

In a press release, Nodal Officer of All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP on Spices) informed that training was aimed at imparting technical know-how on spices and horticulture production to improve livelihood of poor families by generating extra income and enriching resources. 

Altogether ten selected families of each village participated the training cum input distribution programme. 

At the training, resource person, Dr Graceli I Yepthomi, Assistant Professor, Department of Horticulture encouraged the farmers to grow spices since it was not given much importance and also remunerative besides having many health benefits and potentiality, the release said.

She also explained on how to grow vegetables and spices together organically and the storage methods of seeds for the next season after which inputs like spices and vegetable seeds, protrays and sprayers were distributed to the beneficiaries of those aspirant villages. 

During the programme, the farmers shared the problems to which the resource person provided helpful suggestions and assured them to provide more farm inputs to increase their production and profits in the coming days, it added.
