
Medziphema, March 9 (MExN): The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema successfully organised three day long training on ‘fish breeding and fish seed rearing’ funded under TSP from March 7 to 9. The training was attended by 25 participants from Peren, Kohima and Dimapur districts.
Jyotish Barman, Scientist (Fisheries) and coordinator of the training highlighted the fish seed production scenario of Nagaland and stressed on the importance of undertaking fish breeding programme in small scale to cater the fish seed demand locally. Demonstration on common carp breeding in hapas, application of fertilizers and preparation of fish feed were conducted during the training period.
Ph Romen Sharma, Scientist (Agricultural Extension), apprised the trainees on the need to develop enterprises for sustaining livelihood. He also spoke on the importance of preserving traditional knowledge on fish farming, which otherwise would be lost in due course of time.
Dr. D. J. Rajkhowa, Joint Director, in his speech urged the trainees to follow scientific farming practices with a goal to improve production so that the state can achieve self sufficiency in fish production. He also urged the farmer to adopt integrated farming system as an alternate means to sustain livelihood. Later, course completion certificate was distributed to the participants by the Joint Director.
