ICAR Nagaland hosts regional workshop
Officials releasing the extension folder on Oyster mushroom cultivation during the three-day regional workshop at ICAR Nagaland Centre from August 26 - 28.
Medziphema, August 28 (MExN): ICAR Nagaland Centre hosted a three-day long Regional workshop on ‘Water, Millet, Nutrition Cultures’ for Strengthening Emotional & Cultural Bonding with Nature organized by Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi from August 26 -28.
The programme was organized in collaboration with ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Umiam, Meghalaya, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam, Meghalaya and ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati, Assam. During the inaugural session, DJ Rajkhowa, Joint Director, ICAR Nagaland Centre briefed about the role of ICAR in conservation of indigenous traditional knowledge.
The objective of the programme was to exchange the traditional knowledge with respect to water, millets and nutrition, their cultural aspect attached to the practices and the issues and scope for conservation of such traditional wisdom, a press release stated.
Dr Narendra Prakash, Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Umiam highlighted the different activities undertaken by ICAR and the importance of farmer’s wisdom and their role participation in technology development process.
Atul Jain, General Secretory, Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhibriefly spoke about the role and activities of Deendayal Research Institute and highlighted the purpose of conducting such programme. He praised the rich cultural value and diversity of north east region.
Dr Bidyut C Deka, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VII, Umiam highlighted the importance of indigenous knowledge, indigenous crops and vegetables in the context of climate change.
Dr AK Tripathi, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati highlighted the value of cultural aspect of different communities in agricultural practices. All the speakers on the inaugural session expressed the importance for documentation and scientific validation of the indigenous practices being adopted by the farmers.
Archana Chitnis, Ex-Minister, Women and Child Development, Government of MP, Professor BS Somor, Historian, Dr Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR- NRC Mithun, Dr SV Ngachan former Director ICAR Research Complex for NEH, Umiam, delegates from Deendayal Research Institute, New Delhi, Apollo hospital new Delhi, Indian Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi, distinguished scientists and researcher from ICAR Nagaland centre and ICAR- NRC Mithun, officials of KVK and officials of various line departments also participated in the inaugural ceremony.
Farmers of different communities and experts also shared and discussed their knowledge, indigenous wisdom, folk tales, cultural attachment and the scientific reasons of various traditional practices.
Altogether 120 delegates from different organizations and farmers from Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya participated in the workshop. An extension folder on Oyster mushroom cultivation and a video on artificial insemination in pig were also released during the event.
