ICAR-NRC on Mithun conducts Mithun farming in Arunachal

Dimapur, October 19 (MExN): The ICAR-NRC on Mithun under Tribal Sub-Plan conducted 3 days the Hands-on training program on Semi-Intensive Mithun Farming from October 17-19 for the farmers of Arunachal Pradesh.

 

A total of nine mithun farmers from Mai Village, Yachuli block, Lower Subansari of Arunachal Pradesh participated in the program.

 

The training was part of the Institute's initiative to create awareness among the mithun farmers on Semi-Intensive mithun farming with the objective to train them on the various aspects of the scientific mithun husbandry, a press release from ICAR-NRC informed.

 

The Scientists delivered the lectures on various topics like care and management of young, pregnant and lactating animals, selection of mithun breeding bull and breeding management, feeding management and fodder resources for mithun, health management, and entrepreneurship development, it said.

 

The farmers mostly spent their time at the Mithun Farm witnessing routine farm activities, animal handling,  identification of animals, blood collection and other activities including detection of heat, semen collection, and milking in Mithun, it added.

 

It concluded with farmers sharing their views on what they have learned from the training and the the importance of Mithun in Nishi tribe, the release said, adding the tribe  rears the animal for various purposes.

 

Dr. KesangYeshiTukshipa, Project Associate (Livestock) from NEIDA acted as a facilitator in the training while Dr. Sapunii Stephen Hanah, Scientist (LPM) and Dr. Laishram Sunitibala Devi, Scientist (LPM) from ICAR-NRC on Mithun co-ordinated the training program.
