Mokokchung, November 12 (MExN): The Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung in a pioneering initiative for a government healthcare facility in Nagaland, has conducted a two-day hospitality workshop aimed at transforming patient care and strengthening teamwork among its staff.

The workshop, organised in collaboration with the Eagle Crest Training Academy and Consultancy (ECTAAC) from Dimapur, was held under the theme “United in Purpose, Caring Beyond Duty” at the hospital’s Multipurpose Hall on November 11 and 12.

According to a hospital update, the programme was designed to enhance the highest standard of patient-centred care, with a focus on improving patient satisfaction, safety, and compliance. Officials said it also aimed to boost workplace efficiency and mitigate litigation risks by honing communication, empathy, and teamwork skills.

In her keynote address, Dr Ademla Tinu, Medical Superintendent of IMDH, underscored the critical need for such training. “Communication gaps and other communication issues can lead to poor overall health care efficiency, patient dissatisfaction and even patient safety risks,” she stated.

Dr Tinu emphasised that the workshop was not merely about polishing speaking skills but about fundamentally transforming how healthcare workers interact. “Our staff is the backbone of the hospital and investing in their communication and team work skills is an investment in patient wellbeing,” she said, adding that this initiative would also positively influence patients' emotional and psychological health, which is crucial for recovery.

Allin Awomi, Operations Head & HR of ECTAAC, highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it was the “first of its kind in a Government Health Care facility in the state.”

The workshop, conducted in three batches, saw participation from all hospital staff who come into direct contact with patients, including clinical, administrative, and support teams. Resource persons Asheli, an Aviation Trainer and Team Leader from ECTAAC, and Ayani Kikon, a Soft Skill Trainer and Editor-in-Chief, led the sessions. They trained participants on core principles of hospitality tailored to a healthcare setting, including patient priority handling, clear communication skills, and teamwork.

The 150-bedded IMDH, one of the oldest district hospitals in Nagaland, serves not only Mokokchung but also the neighbouring districts of Longleng, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto. It provides comprehensive services including 24x7 emergency care, specialties like Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Radiotherapy, and supports various government health programmes.

The hospital administration anticipates that the investment in this workshop will lead to improved patient satisfaction scores, better clinical outcomes, and a more engaged and unified team, reinforcing its ongoing commitment to providing the highest standard of care for the community.
