In a bid to fight drug abuse, Nagaland Police to host awareness on Facebook
Dimapur, June 23 (MExN): Nagaland Police will conduct a Facebook Live awareness programme on June 26 coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, to address the escalating threat of narcotics trafficking and substance abuse in the State and the wider Northeast region.
The online initiative comes against the backdrop of Nagaland’s geographical vulnerability, given its proximity to the Golden Triangle and its location along key narcotics trafficking corridors of the Northeast have made the State particularly vulnerable to both drug trafficking and rising substance abuse among the youth, according to the Nagaland Police post on its social media handles.
The live programme, to be broadcast on the official Nagaland Police Facebook page from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM IST,is designed to raise awareness about the health, social and legal consequences of drug abuse, inform the public of provisions under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, highlight avenues for treatment and rehabilitation, and reinforce the importance of community participation, parental vigilance and youth leadership in building a drug-free Nagaland.

The programme has been specifically designed to reach school students, college and university youth, NGOs engaged in de-addiction and rehabilitation work, and the wider civil society across Nagaland. “The initiative is designed to reach audiences who may not otherwise be able to attend an in-person event, while still allowing them to ask questions and engage directly with senior police officers and resource persons,” it stated.
Heads of Schools, Principals of Colleges, NGO representatives and members of the public have been requested to tune in on Facebook Live, and to write in through the comments section chat with their questions, which will be taken up by the panel during the interactive segment. Nagaland Police have appealed to the press and electronic media to give wide publicity to the programme, so that its message reaches every school, college, NGO and household across the State.
