It is indeed appreciable that the political services rendered to us by those grand members of the erstwhile Naga People Convention (NPC). Within record 3 (three) years of time (1957-1959), Naga Hills District have been upgraded to Naga Hills and Tuensang Area and then to ‘de-facto’ State of Nagaland (Interim).
By then, we had hardly a dozen of Graduates and very little other resources. Today we have multitudes of intellectuals and professionals capable of doing anything under the Sun. But most of us tend to join political parties, civil societies and other organizations for self-interest without merit and commitment.
If this is the culmination of our political story; it is quite deserving to erect the statues of each of those honorable members of the then NPC at Kohima town albeit not the Mayawati way commemorating their invaluable services. Beyond this, there is no political achievement made so far.
It is reported that the Union cabinet has already approved to upgrade the Gauhati High Court benches at Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur which is awaiting to pass as an Act during the ensuing Parliament to an independent High Court. Criteria of a full fledged High Court may be a debatable on but Indian case Law depicts that Naga litigants are poor and lack legal knowledge and awareness towards the access to justice. I do not know what the concern establishment of Nagaland thinks of, but to me it is a case of supercession of State.
