IRB Manhandle Public: Clarification thereof:

With reference to the front page news item of Nagaland Post dated 11/2/07, I wish to state and clarify through your esteemed daily newspaper, the following facts of the incident and inform all the concerned individuals. That, on l0th Feb 2007 at about 7:30 p.m., my son Vikuo and 3 (three) of his friends visited their other friends in the town. As they were about to return to their respective home, his two friends went ahead to hire an autorickshow at Nagarjan junction, while two of his friends were inside the hired autorickshow, waiting for my son and his other friend; all of a sudden, two persons in an inebriated state, arrived at the scene and started pushing and assaulting them. As my son and his friend arrived and inquired the reason of commotion, they were also insulted and rebuked whereupon fighting started amongst them. In the meantime, Police Mobile Squad came and took my son and one of his friends to East Police station, while the two friends ran away from the spot.

Now when my son and his friend were being question at the said Police Station, a mob of 11th IRB jawans numbering about 50, rushed and barged into the Police Station and beat up my son, Vikuo and his friend, black and blue with the ill motive to finish off their life in front of the police personals on duty. Later on, my son and his friend were shifted to Dimapur Civil Hospital in an unconscious state and are now undergoing medical treatment in a critical condition.

It also came to light that another civilian named Kezeviho, resident of Chumukedima, who was waiting autorickshow to return home, was also found out to be beaten black and blue in between East Police Station and Haft Nagarjan Junction by the said mob of IRE Jawans. This incident took place before the said IRB jawans barged into the East Police Station.

The daily local news - item have only concentrated on the high handedness of the IRB personnel’s and nothing about the victims who were brutally beaten black and blue while they were completely under the police custody.

While clarifying the factual reasons that my son and his friend were beaten and injured by the so called ‘Custodian of the Law’ while under police custody and not in the street, I, as one of the victims and aggrieved father, would like to ask this questions and immediate clarification from the IRB, Police and District Administration.

1. When a mob of more than 50 jawans without any assigned duty on the march out in the Street at night, where were the OC’s, JCO’s etc? What were they doing?

2. When Vikuo and his friend were under Police Custody, why were they beaten by the irate savage mob? What were the police on duty doing? Are any apprehended civilian safe under the police custody?

3: The errant jawans could be punished by transfer or mild punishment but what about my son and his friend, who are critically injured with irreparable damaged caused on their internal organs and other parts of their bodies? Can they ever recover to become normal persons as before?
