KHNAM merges with regional party UDP

Shillong | November 26: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) general executive council (GEC) has finally resolved to merge with the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Saturday in Shillong.
The KHNAM decision to merge with the single largest regional party in Meghalaya came after a day long discussion where proponents and opposing groups traded diplomatic verbal volleys on the ideologies that they wanted to sustain. The KHNAM is a political offshoot of the powerful Khasi Students Union (KSU), the student body that has a mass appeal in the state.
In spite of the tough questions made by those opposing the merger of the KHNAM with the UDP that was spearheaded by the party general secretary Pyndapor Saiborn, the raising of hands during the call for a voice vote gave the group led by the KHNAM President Paul Lyngdoh a healthy majority that the party should merge with the UDP.
Earlier during the deliberations Saiborne was the most vociferous in asking the proponents to abandon the ideologies of the KHNAM, even as he attacked his president for abandoning the movement and the political party.  “What is the wrong of the ideologies of the political party that we created that you wanted to dissolve it “, questioned the KHNAM general secretary while resisting to the arguments related to the proposed merger with the UDP.
“You wanted to merge with the UDP to fight the Congress misrule and corruption but you were one who proposed to enter the Congress”, stated Saiborn, daring him to pull out from the Congress led government in the state at this juncture.
KHNAM president Paul Lyngdoh said that in the past ten years the party has failed and to sustain the movement, it will be better to be inside an established regional party that will enable the party's movement reaches its goal.
“We were able to impress the people and through the established party, let us enter together and pursue with the movement that we have envisioned”, stated Lyngdoh ”, The KHNAM president also stated that as a leader he is taking the cause and the ideologies of the party  into the right political  path by deciding to merge with the UDP.
Soon after disbanding of the KHNAM, Paul Lyngdoh said that the merger of the KHNAM with the UDP was to strengthen the regional party and the members of the dissolved party will get adequate share in the party that they have merged. “As per the agreement, the post of working president cum spokesman, assistant general secretary and chief organizer will go to our members”, stated Lyngdoh.
