DIMAPUR, JANUARY 17 (MExN): Knight XI Thahekhu today emerged as the winner of the 5th Unity Cup beating Hurricane CC in the final. 


A 24-run knock and a 3-wicket haul by Sahil helped the team beat Hurricane by 3 wickets in the final. Under the theme, ‘Solidarity for Peace,’ the 11-day tournament organised by the Nepali Baptist Church, Chümoukedima (NBCC) at the Chümoukedima Local Ground from January 6, saw participation from 19 teams.


The winning team walked away with cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with running trophy while the runner-up received Rs. 20,000. The prizes were respectively sponsored by NBCC members Ratna Rana & Family and Chanu Panthy & Family. Jalal Uddin of Whiskers CC & Nagaho of Knight XI Thahekhu were named the 'best bowler' while Mughavi of Knight XI Thahekhu was adjudged the best batsman. Debashish of Hurricane CC was awarded player of the tournament. Rayn Lama of Hurricane CC was awarded the ‘emerging player of the tournament.’


The main guest of the closing ceremony was Bishnu Bhathattacharjee, Chairman Minority Wing, Naga People’s Front Central & Social Worker, who encouraged the youth to be role model and to be the backbone of the society. He also wished the organizers and players success in future endeavours. During the tournament, Match Patrons from various fields also encouraged the youth to have the spirit and passion of dignity of labour.


Pastor of NBCC further encouraged the players to stand firm in their commitment until the next tournament in 2021.
